Late nights at the sugarhouse

This time of year in Vermont is one my favorite seasons. It’s sugaring season...a unique time when nights are below freezing, but days are warm when sap flows through our maple trees.

Winter is still holding on, but the days are longer, the sun feels stronger, and all of us have a bit of energy building in our bones for the short growing season ahead.

Everyone is still as busy and exhausted as always, but we all find some time to go out to friend’s sugarhouses. Most of us who still inhabit the Working Landscape don’t have time for gathering with friends very often, so this time together seems extra special.
